He was an industrious and rapid artist and his work was very popular. His exhibiting period was 1852 – 1893.

In 1882 he elected to become a member of the New Watercolour Society.

The Art Journal, 1869, reproduces ‘The Mill Door’, and comments “We are pleased to meet with something which breaks the monotony of what is ordinarily set before us…both in the subject and its treatment we have an attractive work: the introduction of the mother and her children gives animation to the scene, while they do not appear forced in for the sake of effect; they express only a domestic incident natural enough in their daily life.”
